The diving district – to the north of the Gulf of Mexico and in the southern Caribbean – reveal an undisturbed underwater world, which offers one of the most beautiful and most interesting districts on almost 6000 km of coastline.
The diverse underwater landscape, caves, tunnels and ship wrecks in one of the largest coral reefs in the worlds oceans invite to adventure and promise encounters with rays, barracudas, sharks, morays, many crustaceans, mollusks and tropical fish.
We have chosen two especially interesting locations for you among Cuba’s diving districts, Maria la Gorda on the western tip of the country and Isla de Juventud Island in Canarreos-Archipelago. Both districts are suitable for beginners as they are for experienced divers.

Villa maria la gorda

Location: immediately at Maria la Gorda beach
Facilities: 2.5 stars, 35 rooms, in row houses, 20 rooms in wood cottages, restaurant, bar, leisure room, billiards, travel agency, car rental, doctor. Small boat trips and excursion can be arranged on site. The hotel restaurant specializes on fish dishes.

The dive center’s well trained and professional personnel are committed the guests’ safety and comfort. It is our goal to bring Cuba’s underwater world closer and to promote the development of the sport of diving, which supports respect and protection of maritime life and their surrounds.

MARIA LA GORDA is located at the southern coast of the western tip, in proximity to Cancun, Mexico. This used to be the meeting point and resting spot for pirates and Corsars and there are still remains of sunken galleys, anchors, and cannon. It is about 300 km from Havana, which is about a 3 to 4 hour ride with the shuttle. Excursions to neighboring towns are recommendable. For example to Pinar del Río with its famous tobacco factories or to Viñales-Tal, where tobacco plantations and mountains present such a wonderful scene.
The VILLA MARIA LA GORDA complex is located directly on a 8 km long beach. A fully equipped diving center, two boats with emergency equipment and radar await you. The diving grounds are accessible directly from the hotel. Airlift to the next nearest clinic with a decompression chamber is provided in case of emergency.


There are up to 40 diving locations, 546m deep, in crystal clear water; the
La Sala de Maria Caves, which are about 20 m deep and is the valley of the black corals with a 30m large coral reef are extraordinary. Ancla del Pirata, the “Pirate’s Anchor” is a definite recommendation to novices.
The diving season is yearlong with 40 visibility and 24 C water temperature.
