Peninsula de zapata
A nature enthusiasts’ delight, the region is in southern Matanzas Province and is a true Birdwatchers and divers paradise. Notable natural highlights are: the thick forests, the marshy coastal region and the winding canals in the largest wetlands in the insular Caribbean, La Boca’s crocodile breeding farm with about 5,000 varieties, the treasure lagoon (Laguna del Tesoro), which is deemed to be the largest inland water in the Cuban archipelagos, the cave system on the coast, the Playa Larga and Playa Giron and the wonderful underwater world.
The diving center in Playa Girón is located directly in Playa Girón Hotel. Black corals, Gorgonien and sea sponge colonies are not too far from the coast.
