The small town Fernandina de Jagua, modern day
Cienfuegos originated in 1819 from the former
Kaziken territory, in a lonesome/isolated and protected part of a large bay. In 1745 the Spanish colonial authorities had already erected a solid fortress which remains till today.
A coastal town with an interesting flair, the historic downtown puts the neoclassical inspired building on show. Former palaces and casinos like the
Palacio del Valle, the
Teatro Terry and the district around
Parque Marti.
