Leap back in time to the 50s
The Riviera hotel is the meeting point for some of Italy and America’s most notorious mafia members:
Al Capone, Charles “Lucky” Luciano, Luigi Santo Trafficante, Don Vito Genovese and second home to Meyer Lanski, who pulled all the strings.
It is said that Frank Sinatra, who visited with his wife Ava Gardner, was well connected to the mafia – as a regular in Capri Hotel’s casino and in Riviera, he was always seen with some of them. Dictator, Batista always had events under control, as the CIA and mafia’s hand man.
Today
The Riviera is by its architecture and spatial configuration a modern hotel from the 50s, with a spacious and encompassing lobby, large windows with a view of the ocean, and a pure joy for lovers of this era, which reflects lots of architectural details.
The large hall in the building was restored true to the original style of the 50s “Copa Room” and it hosts Cuba’s stars of today in shows and concerts. The cigar shop across the hotel is a good starting point for cigar aficionados, with a good selection including of course the beloved “Churchill-Formats”.
The hotel, directly at Malecon is a good starting point for a jog down the Malecon towards the old town.
